Ukrainian army is testing the experimental US 2-CT Hawkeye, which is only being tested in the US
The American company AM General has delivered to Ukraine its newest development, the 2-CT Hawkeye light self-propelled artillery system (SAU), which is currently being tested by the US Army.
Here's What We Know
The newest self-propelled artillery system, developed by AM General and Mandus Group in 2019, was awarded a contract in 2021 to produce two units for testing. It is equipped with a 105 mm M20 cannon on an HMMWV chassis, which provides high mobility and rapid response in combat.
The main advantages of the 2-CT Hawkeye include the use of SRT soft recoil technology, which allows for stable firing and high accuracy. In particular, with the help of a digital fire control system, it can fire the first shot in just 1.5 minutes after stopping and leave the position in 3 minutes.
Due to the rapid fire rate of the 105-mm gun (8 rounds per minute during the first 3 minutes), the 2-CT Hawkeye is able to effectively perform tasks in counter-battery combat. It provides a range of 11.6 km and has high manoeuvrability on the battlefield.
