The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond gameplay shown at Nintendo Direct was recorded on the original Nintendo Switch, not its successor

The recent Nintendo Direct presentation featured several major games, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which showed off impressive gameplay visuals. This has led to speculation that the footage could be from Nintendo's next-generation console, which is due to be released by April 2025. However, the IGN report clarifies that the trailer was shown in 900p resolution on the current Nintendo Switch.

Here's What We Know

Digital Foundry editor Richard Leadbetter noted that the trailer, while visually impressive, has minor technical issues, such as a slight drop in frame rate and an alias. The game is still in development, so these issues can be resolved before launch.

There is also speculation that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond may be released as a cross-generation game for both the Switch and its successor, similar to the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

More information is expected in the coming months, and the game is scheduled for release in 2025.
