Waymo robot taxis are now available in San Francisco
Waymo has now opened up its robotaxis to all residents of the city of San Francisco, allowing anyone to hail the self-driving cars through its mobile app. After receiving government approval last year, Waymo went through a waiting period and is now the only company with self-driving commercial vehicles in the city.
Here's What We Know
According to the company, their cars have travelled more than 3.8 million miles without a driver, making "tens of thousands of trips per week". This is the second city after Phoenix where Waymo robocars have become available to the general public.
Other incidents, such as the Phoenix accident, have shown that the company continues to improve its software after minor incidents. If you're in San Francisco, you can now take advantage of this cutting-edge service via the iOS or Android app.
