Samsung may consider using MediaTek's Dimensity chip for the Galaxy S25
In light of recent rumours that Samsung is having trouble producing its new flagship Exynos 2500 chip, and that the price of Qualcomm's next flagship chipset may increase, it is reported that Samsung may make a surprising decision on the processor choice for its upcoming Galaxy S25 flagship.
Here's What We Know
According to information from South Korean publication The Financial News, citing whistleblower PandaFlashX, the chances of Samsung using the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy S25 are higher than before at 40 per cent yield. It is also mentioned that the company plans to increase the yield to the required minimum 60% as early as August. The report also notes that the use of its own Exynos chip contributes to the development of Samsung's semiconductor business and may influence price negotiations with Qualcomm.
It is known that Samsung has traditionally used Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon chips and its own Exynos, but the high cost of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, reaching $190-200 and a possible price increase to $260 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 are prompting Samsung to look for alternatives. MediaTek's Dimensity SoC is rumoured to be a potential candidate, which could be a significant departure from tradition for the Galaxy S series.
However, the source cited in the report are not reliable, so this information should be treated with caution. Choosing a chip from MediaTek could lead to more stable prices for the flagship Galaxy devices in the long run, despite the possible increase in the cost of other components.
