Chrome for Android is preparing to introduce a background playback feature

An update to the Chrome mobile app may allow users to continue listening to online articles even when the app is not open or active.

Here's What We Know

The Listen to This Page feature is already present in Chrome, allowing users to open web pages and listen to their content, and the update will include support for background playback similar to audiobooks.

Until now, audio from a webpage played through the Listen to this page option would stop if you closed Chrome or locked the screen.
