Naoki Yoshida apologised to fans for the problems in the Final Fantasy XIV expansion: Downtrail expansion in early access
Square Enix has recently released the next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV - Downtrail - in early access, but as it turned out, it has many problems, so producer Naoki Yoshida has published a new blog post with an apology.
Here's What We Know
The main problem concerns the game's operation on Xbox Series consoles: the game stops responding to any player's actions while moving around field locations and cities. According to Yoshida himself, this is due to the phenomenon of memory fragmentation. The development team is already actively working on fixing the bug, but it will still take some time, as the necessary testing is required. Memory fragmentation is less likely to occur in worlds with fewer players on the screen, so it's best to play on Dynamis, Shadow, or Oceania data centres.
In addition, the game has issues with certain activities, such as Dragonsong's Reprise, Minstrel's Ballad: Shinryu's Domain, Delubrum Reginae (Savage), where glitches or malfunctions may occur.
Finally, there are animation issues with some races, especially during actions such as seraphism. The main reason is "entering incorrect values for the relevant parts during fine-tuning of graphical updates and other fixes". These issues are considered "high priority" and a fix is expected later this week. However, it is not known if this update will resolve the freezing and Xbox issues.
