Gmail gets "Summarise" feature powered by Gemini chatbot to quickly summarise email chains

Gmail is getting a new AI feature called Summarise to help users quickly understand the content of long email chains.

Here's What We Know

"Summarise is powered by Google's Gemini technology and appears as a button below the subject line in emails that have more than two replies.

When you click the Summarise button, a panel appears that contains a brief description of the email chain. Users can also evaluate the accuracy of the summary by clicking the Up or Down button.

Summarise is currently only available to paid Gmail subscribers, but Google plans to make it available to all users in the near future.

In addition to the Summarise feature, Gmail is also getting a Gemini sidebar that offers the following features:

• Email summaries
• Reply suggestions for email threads
• Help with writing emails
• Search for specific information in emails and on Google Drive
• The Gemini sidebar is available to users of Gemini Business and Enterprise, Gemini Education and Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium add-ons.
