Google is planning to update the under-screen fingerprint scanner in its next flagship Pixel 9 smartphone line-up.

The information was shared by insider and dataminer @Za_Raczke. We are talking about the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Unlike the optical scanner, the ultrasonic one creates detailed three-dimensional images of fingerprints, providing higher accuracy and security.

According to the leak, we're talking about Qualcomm's 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008) scanner. It is also installed in Samsung's flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra. The new scanner will be installed in the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. As for the Pixel Fold 2, it will still use the scanner in the power button.
