Sony and AMD's partnership to create the PlayStation 4 saved AMD from bankruptcy: the console was too successful

The PlayStation 4 turned out to be a very successful console: more than 117 units sold, a good ecosystem, and dozens of interesting exclusives that encouraged people to buy Sony's console for years. At the same time, PS4 saved AMD from bankruptcy.

Sony joined forces with AMD to develop a special APU (accelerated processor) for the PS4. At the time, AMD was doing poorly and the company's bankruptcy seemed like a real possibility.

Renato Fragale, who is one of AMD's directors, wrote on LinkedIn that the PS4 launch is considered one of the most successful in AMD's history. And this is what helped AMD avoid bankruptcy.
