Samsung Galaxy Flip 6 may use an IPS screen instead of AMOLED one

According to recent reports, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Flip 6 smartphone may get an important change in the specifications of the external screen. Well-known insider Evan Blass has shared promotional materials of the new device, including specifications that point to the use of an IPS panel for the external screen.

Here's What We Know

This supposed upgrade is a step back from the Super AMOLED screen used in the previous Galaxy Flip 5 model. OLED technology is known for its energy efficiency, especially when displaying black colour as the corresponding pixels are completely switched off. Due to this, the new IPS screen may result in increased power consumption when using the AoD feature.

However, IPS panels are less prone to screen burn-in compared to OLED, which can be seen as an advantage in terms of durability. Also, the cost of IPS screens is generally lower than OLED, which hints at Samsung's possible desire to reduce or maintain component costs without sacrificing quality.

However, it is possible that this information could be inaccurate. Rumours and leaks about the Galaxy Flip 6 have been floating around for the past few months and until today, there was no indication that the Flip 6 has an external IPS screen. But the Unpacked presentation is coming up in a few days and that's when the official information about it will be known.
