Chinese car manufacturer Nio tests Kuavo robot running on Huawei operating system
A recent China Star Market report revealed that Nio is testing the Kuavo robot, developed by Leju Robotics, in its factories. This robot is the first to run on HarmonyOS, an operating system developed by Huawei.
Here's What We Know
Nio started testing humanoid robots in its factories earlier than other car manufacturers.
Prior to testing Kuavo, another humanoid robot, Walker S from UBTech Robotics, was trained at Nio's factory in February 2024. This was the first time that Walker S was actually trained in a new energy vehicle (NEV) factory.
During the training, Walker S used its image capture and transmission capabilities for quality control tasks such as checking door locks, seat belts and headlight covers. In addition, the robot was able to attach vehicle logos.
In April 2024, Nio announced significant steps in its quest to integrate humanoid robots into manufacturing processes and other areas of activity. Yi Peng, Head of Nio's Humanoid Robotics for Intelligent Engineering Division, presented two key areas of the company's work:
- Developing humanoid robots capable of working in confined spaces and performing multitasking tasks. This will be achieved by combining 5G technologies and advanced vision algorithms.
- Introducing humanoid robots to perform quality control tasks. This step will help to optimise production processes and guarantee a high level of products.
