Find My Device app exceeds 500 million downloads in Google Play Store

The Find My Device app, which helps users locate lost or stolen gadgets, has reached a significant milestone: 500 million downloads in the Google Play Store. This success demonstrates the need for reliable tracking tools in a time when we are increasingly reliant on our mobile devices.

Here's What We Know

Google released the app on 11 December 2013. For many years, the app's design remained unchanged with a green and white colour palette.

In early 2023, Google finally updated the design of Material You, which included a dark theme that replaced the map-based interface with a carousel of devices at the top. Users are now greeted by a simple list of devices with a redesigned google.com/android/find. Google used to allow you to search for "find my phone" and use the same features, but this feature was removed a few years ago. Now you need a Find My Device app or website.

In addition to viewing the location and status (battery and network) of Android phones, tablets, Wear OS watches, Fast Pair headphones, and now trackers on a map, the app allows you to play noise, block, add custom messages, and wipe devices where you are signed in to your Google account.

Towards the end of 2023, Google finally updated its logo. The green and white icon was replaced by a four-colour one.

It's worth noting that Find My Device is not used to set up your network or trackers. All these functions are handled by Google Play and Fast Pair, which appears at the top of the screen.
