Apple warns: spyware attacks iPhones in 98 countries

Apple has sent warnings to iPhone users in 98 countries about possible spyware attacks targeting their personal data.

Here's What We Know

This is the second such warning this year, following a similar notice sent to users in 92 countries in April. Apple has been sending such notifications regularly since 2021, covering more than 150 countries. The latest warning does not disclose the identities of the attackers or the countries where the notifications were received.

The message to users says their iPhones are being attempted to be compromised by spyware targeting specific individuals because of their activities or identity. Apple urges users to take this warning seriously.

Last October, similar warnings were sent to Indian journalists and politicians, and Amnesty International reported the presence of Pegasus spyware on the iPhones of prominent Indian journalists.

Apple emphasises that it cannot disclose threat detection methods so as not to help attackers in the future.
