Samsung Galaxy Ring is resistant to water and dust

Samsung is one of the few manufacturers who pay special attention to protecting their devices from dust and water. They were the first to create a foldable device with an IP waterproof rating. What about brand-new products like the Galaxy Ring? Does this device have dust and water protection? Can I take it with me for a swim?

Here's What We Know

The Galaxy Ring is IP68 rated. The first digit, 6, indicates that Galaxy Ring is as dustproof as possible. This is the highest dust resistance rating, which means that the device provides complete protection against dust (test duration up to 8 hours depending on airflow).

In terms of water resistance, the Galaxy Ring is IP68 rated, which is very high. It also has a 10ATM rating, which corresponds to water resistance up to a depth of 100 metres according to ISO 22810.

Samsung says it tested the Galaxy Ring in 5% salt water and 4 ppm chlorine water. The device received an IP68 rating based on laboratory tests for immersion in fresh water to a depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes.

In the fine print, Samsung notes that the Galaxy Ring is not suitable for high-pressure snorkelling and diving. However, the ring can be used for shallow water activities such as swimming in a pool or ocean, with the caveat that after contact with seawater, it is recommended to rinse the Galaxy Ring in fresh water.

As with any other IP-rated device, Samsung stresses that water resistance is not a permanent condition and its effectiveness may diminish over time.
