Not a bad game that will go unnoticed - critics were left underwhelmed by the action game Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn - action-RPG from A44 Games studio - will be released tomorrow - 18th of July.
The developers position Flintlock as an ideal game for those who want to immerse themselves in the souls-like genre, and most games are too complicated for them, but judging by the critics' reviews, it won't interest many people.
Here's What We Know
Journalists of gaming publications got acquainted with Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and came to a disappointing conclusion - it's not bad and not good, the game is not good at all.
Flintlock is far from a failure, it has an interesting setting, an intriguing plot, a good combat system, a great visual style, competent location design and decent technical execution. However, the game feels somewhat outdated and secondary, it doesn't evoke emotions, doesn't surprise, doesn't thrill, and some of its elements look ill-conceived and underdeveloped. As an example, one of the reviewers cited the inflated cost of equipment upgrades, because of which the player will most likely pass to the end of Flintlock with only one set of weapons and armour.
The developers don't encourage experimentation, and that's why Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn quickly gets boring. Otherwise, it's a completely standard game that can entertain for a while, but is unlikely to stay in your memory for long. Moreover, many interesting ideas of the game designers never got a decent realisation.
As a result, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn received the following scores:
- 66 points - Opencritic, with a recommendation of 31% of critics;
- 71 points - Metacritic, PlayStation 5 version;
- 70 points - Metacritic, PC version;
- 76 points - Metacritic, version for Xbox Series.
