Apple may introduce iPhone 17 Slim in 2025 with ProMotion displays and upgraded cameras
Although the official release of the iPhone 16 is not expected until September 2024, rumours about the next generation - the iPhone 17 - are already emerging. According to an Ice Universe insider, the iPhone 17 lineup will consist of four models: iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and the new 17 Slim, which will replace the iPhone 17 Plus.
Here's What We Know
The standard iPhone 17 and 17 Pro will have a 6.27-inch screen, while the Slim and Pro Max will have larger screens - 6.65 and 6.86 inches, respectively.
The big news is that all iPhone 17 models will feature ProMotion displays with 120Hz refresh rates and LTPO technology, which was previously only available on Pro models. This is a significant upgrade over the standard models, making scrolling and animations smoother. The Dynamic Island design is expected to remain.
As for the cameras, we expect significant improvements, especially for the Pro models. They are likely to have a 48MP triple rear camera with a primary, telephoto, ultra-wide-angle lens, and LiDAR sensor.
The standard iPhone 17 and 17 Slim are likely to get a dual camera setup, but details are still scarce.
The iPhone 17 and 17 Slim will be powered by Apple's A19 Bionic chip, while the Pro models will get the more powerful A19 Pro, which will be manufactured using TSMC's advanced 3nm process. All models are expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon modem for cellular connectivity.
Other expected features include a universal USB-C port, Face ID, an aluminium frame for standard models, and a titanium frame for the Pro.
Prices for the iPhone 17 will start at $799, and the iPhone 17 Slim could cost up to $1,299, making it the most expensive in the lineup. That's more than the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which are expected to cost $1,099 and $1,199, respectively.
The iPhone 17 will be introduced in September 2025.
