Spiritborn is not a run-of-the-mill MMO hero: Blizzard got creative with a new class in Diablo IV

A few days ago Blizzard introduced Spiritborn - a new character class in Diablo IV, which will appear in the game with the release of the Vessel of Hatred add-on.

Back then, the developers showed Spiritborn's abilities related to summoning spirit animals - jaguar, gorilla, eagle and giant centipede - and said that it will be the fastest class in the Diablo franchise. Now the developers have shared their approach to creating this class.

Here's What We Know

Blizzard game designer Bjorn Mikkelson gave an interview to Gamesradar+, in which he explained that his team did not want to create another class tied to animal summoning, as in most MMOs and games of similar genres.

The developer explained that the creatures will not accompany the hero all the time, but will come to the rescue when he summons them and will help in combat. Each of the animals has many unique abilities and they can be freely combined.

While working on Spiritborn, the game designers came up with more than 60 interesting and exciting abilities of the character and his spirits, but not all of them will make it into the game, but the choice will still be huge.

Blizzard wanted to emphasise the Spiritborn's strong connection to nature: there is a constant harmonious interaction between the human and spiritual sides of this class.

When We Can Expect It

The Vessel of Hatred add-on will be released on 8 October simultaneously on PC (Battle.net and Steam) and PlayStation and Xbox consoles of both current generations.
