Xiaomi launches Mix Flip cot with a woven nylon back (photo)

Xiaomi has introduced a new folding smartphone, the Mix Flip, which features an innovative woven nylon back. Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, spoke in detail about this innovation on his social media, emphasising the advantages of design and materials.

Here's What We Know

Mix Flip is Xiaomi's first folding smartphone in the clamshell form factor. The upper part of the device is equipped with a large edge-to-edge external display, which puts it on a par with Samsung and Motorola products. However, the bottom half of the phone, made of nylon fibre, attracts special attention.

According to the images shared by Lei, the new design looks aesthetically pleasing. Although the texture is monochrome, it has an attractive pattern. Lei describes this material as Xiaomi's own development, which retains the soft, smooth feel of natural nylon and shows "high durability".

Nylon is indeed a durable material, but using it in the form of thin threads raises some concerns about wearability. It may be acceptable for cases, but it's a different matter for a $1200 smartphone case.
