Fortnite will return to iOS in the European Union, and Epic Games Store will be available on Android worldwide
Back in 2020, Apple and Google removed Fortnite from their stores after Epic Games created a new way to buy in-game currency directly from it, rather than through the companies' in-game purchase systems. Four years later, Epic has shared its vision of its strategy in the mobile market.
Here's What We Know
The company said that Fortnite will soon return to iOS in the European Union, and the Epic Games Store will appear on Android worldwide and iOS in the European Union, offering all developers the following conditions: a 12% store commission for payments processed by Epic and 0% for third-party payments.
Epic also plans to sell its mobile games, including Fortnite, on other mobile stores that offer significant benefits to developers. In addition, Epic is ending partnerships with mobile stores that act as "rent collectors" that do not compete with us and do not serve all developers fairly, even if those stores offer a special deal for Epic games.
Epic Games' mobile games will be available on the AltStore on iOS in the EU, and the company expects to announce support for at least two other third-party stores soon.
Fortnite and other titles will also be removed from the Samsung Galaxy Store in protest of Samsung's anti-competitive decision to block third-party downloads by default on Samsung devices, as well as public revelations in Epic's lawsuit against Google in the US about Google's ongoing proposals to Samsung to restrict competition in the Android app distribution market.
