Apple plans to release the iPhone 18 Pro with 2TB of storage in 2026
The iPhone 16 lineup will only be announced in a few weeks, and rumours of not only the iPhone 17 series, but also the iPhone 18 series are already starting to emerge. According to the latest reports, the iPhone 18 series will have a decent increase in memory.
Here's What We Know
According to a recent report, Apple is planning to use a new 4-level cell (QLC) flash memory technology in the iPhone 18 Pro series, which will increase the storage capacity to 2TB. The iPhone currently uses 3-level cell (TLC) technology, but QLC, which has 33 per cent higher density, will allow more data to be stored without increasing the chip size. Chinese phone makers are expected to start using QLC later this year, but Apple won't switch to the technology until 2026.
Switching to QLC will allow Apple to offer iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models with up to 2TB of storage. However, despite the advantages in memory capacity, QLC has slower read and write speeds compared to TLC. Nevertheless, QLC is cheaper, which could influence phone makers' decision to switch to the technology. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be priced significantly higher than the current 1TB memory models.
