Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G receives July security update based on Android 13 in the US

The first Samsung Fan Edition smartphone, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G, remains one of the most popular smartphones in the series. After the release of One UI 5.1 based on Android 13, the company stopped providing major software updates for this device. However, it continues to receive monthly security updates.

Here's What We Know

Now the Galaxy S20 FE 5G is receiving another update - the July 2024 security update.

This update fixes 58 security issues. Samsung is currently rolling it out to the unlocked variant of the device in the United States (model SM-G781U1). The new software update changes the phone's firmware version to G781BXXS9HWL6. The company plans to roll out this update to other phone variants in the next few weeks.

How To Switch It On

To check for the July 2024 security patch on your Galaxy S20 FE 5G, go to Settings, Software Update, Download & Install.

If you do not see the update, it means that Samsung has not yet made it available for your device. In this case, keep checking back regularly until you get it. You can also download it from the database and install it manually.

Samsung is also developing One UI 7.0 based on Android 15, which according to massive leaks, offers a new design.

The Galaxy S20 FE 5G does not support either One UI 6.1.1 or One UI 7.0. If you want to experience the features they offer, you'll have to upgrade to a newer Galaxy phone.
