SK hynix has announced that it will begin mass production of GDDR7 memory modules in the third quarter of this year. The new modules deliver up to 32Gbps per pin, with the ability to reach 40Gbps under certain conditions.
Here's What We Know
They can transfer up to 1.5TB per second when used on GPUs with 384-bit memories, a significant improvement over previous generations.
GDDR7 also delivers improved power efficiency, reducing thermal resistance by 74% thanks to new packaging that includes six layers of heat dissipation. This reduces power consumption by more than 50%.
The company expects the new modules to be used not only in graphics, but also in 3D graphics, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and autonomous driving.
