Google's Pixel Watch 3 will require a newer Android smartphone to use its new features. Recent promotional materials have shown that the new watch requires a phone with Android 10.0 or later.

Compared to the Pixel Watch 2, which supports Android 9.0, the new requirements may come as a surprise to some users.

The Pixel Watch 3 will come with new fitness features, updated apps, and settings in Wear OS 5. Despite the new requirements, approximately 13-14% of active Android devices still run on version 10.0.

In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Watch supports Android 9.0 despite Wear OS 5.
