You can't cancel something that doesn't exist: a reputable journalist dispelled rumours about Destiny 3's discontinued development
In April, a rumour appeared online that Bungie studio was working on Destiny 3 - a new shooter, which was codenamed Project Payback.
Bungie Studios is laying off another 220 employees and embarking on a major workflow reorganisation and reformatting of Bungie studio, many gamers remembered this information and worried that due to the difficult situation Sony and Bungie cancelled the development of Payback.
However, the whole logical chain turned out to be wrong.
Here's What We Know
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier clarified the situation.
As he learned, Bungie did work on Project Payback for some time, but this project has long been cancelled and it was not Destiny 3, but was more of an experiment.
Just to clear up some rumours floating around, Destiny 3 was not cancelled because it was never in development, per people familiar. Bungie did some very early work on a spinoff project called Payback, but they cancelled that a while ago. I'll have a story tomorrow with more info

Schreier is sure that Destiny 3 was never in development at any point in time, so it's impossible to cancel something that never existed.
In the near future Jason Schreier promises to publish a material about the state of affairs in Bungie.
At the moment, the American studio is busy developing Destiny franchise and completing the production of sci-fi shooter Marathon.
