NVIDIA delays release of Blackwell AI chips due to design issues
According to The Information, NVIDIA has encountered design flaws in its new Blackwell series of artificial intelligence chips, which could delay their release by several months.
Here's What We Know
According to the publication's sources, the company has already started informing customers about the delay, including Microsoft. Instead of the planned launch this year, it is expected that mass chip deliveries will start no earlier than early 2025.
The largest orders for Blackwell were placed by Google, Meta, and other large companies, and the value of the contracts is estimated at tens of billions of dollars.
NVIDIA announced Blackwell in March, promising a performance boost of up to 30 times compared to its flagship H100, as well as a significant reduction in cost and power consumption.
Currently, NVIDIA and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company are conducting test production to resolve design issues, and the first major shipments may not occur until the first quarter of next year.
