The United States has ordered additional M109A7 artillery systems worth almost $500 million

The US Army has ordered an additional batch of M109A7 and M992A3 tracked armoured artillery support vehicles worth $493 million.

Official information about the $493 million order was announced on the website of the manufacturer BAE Systems. According to the contract, the delivery of the new equipment is scheduled for the period from August 2025 to July 2026, which indicates a timely response of the army to the needs of security and defence.

The new M109A7 series of artillery systems will significantly enhance the US defence capability as they integrate advanced technologies such as positioning and control systems to ensure high rates of fire, as well as a satellite system for firing precision projectiles.

"We are focused on producing and deploying modern artillery that provides the army with unrivalled range, accuracy and lethality," said Dan Ferber, director of BAE Systems Combat Mission Systems.

As a reminder, the production of the M109A7 started in 2020, bringing the total value of the deals to about $3 billion.

The M109A7 is the most advanced howitzer in the M109 family of vehicles, as well as the main artillery piece of the US Army Armoured Brigade Combat Teams. The M109A7 was partially unified with the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. Its chassis was replaced with an improved one with suspension elements. In addition, the engine was changed to a more powerful Cummins V903 version and the HMPT-800 transmission from the US BMP. The vehicle also received a computer system for monitoring the condition of systems and components.
