Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 may get hidden camera detection feature

Xiaomi is preparing to launch HyperOS 2.0, a new version of its Android-based operating system. The new update may include a hidden camera detection feature. The feature, dubbed "Camera Scan", is rumoured to use WLAN signals to detect cameras in the vicinity.

The leaked screenshots show a user interface with a scan option and a privacy notice. The feature may be similar to the open-source Ingram app on GitHub.

The update is expected in October 2024, which coincides with the anniversary of HyperOS 1.0. In addition to camera detection, HyperOS 2.0 may improve device performance, enhance connectivity between Xiaomi devices, and offer more customisation options.

The camera detection option could set a new standard for privacy features in smartphone operating systems. However, the effectiveness of this technology in practice remains to be seen.
