Crisis at OpenAI: two more key employees leave the company
At OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, it's not a stable time and there is an ongoing exodus of employees - two more key leaders have left the company.
Here's What We Know
John Schulman, one of OpenAI's co-founders, has announced his departure and move to Anthropic, where he plans to return to hands-on technical work. In a post on Platform X, he noted that his decision is not due to a lack of support for alignment research at OpenAI. Along with Schulman, Peter Deng, vice president of consumer products, left the company and will now lead product development at Uber and Meta.
The layoffs come amid ongoing changes in OpenAI's leadership following a major reshuffle that saw Sam Altman ousted. Since then, the company has faced a number of challenges, including criticism for prioritising "shiny products" over security. It has also emerged that Greg Brockman, another key member of the team, is taking a leave of absence until the end of the year. These developments raise questions about the company's future and its ability to maintain its leadership position in artificial intelligence.
