Insider: closed studio Ready At Dawn was planning to release a sequel to The Order: 1886

News broke today that Meta has shut down game studio Ready at Dawn - authors of The Order: 1886, best known for the cinematic game The Order: 1886, which was released in 2016 and remains a PS4 exclusive.

After the release of The Order: 1886, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before a sequel was released. Although a second part never followed, according to a reputable insider the studio was still planning to make one.

Here's What We Know

Insider Shinobi602 reported that he knows exactly what Ready At Dawn Studios plans to release a sequel to The Order: 1886. Such intentions were current until the studio was bought by Meta Corporation in 2020, and later the matter was discussed several times, but unfortunately it didn't lead to anything.

Shinobi602 believes that in a sequel the developers would have significantly improved the main controversial element of The Order: 1886 - gameplay. He believes that the difference between the first and second instalment would have been comparable to that between Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II, as the developers spent a lot of effort on improving their own engine.

Given that Sony owns the rights to The Order: 1886, even if the Japanese company ever decides to return to the game and release a sequel, it will be handled by another developer.
