The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has announced that the state has contracted one million domestically produced drones for the Ukrainian Defence Forces in 2024.

Here's What We Know

"A real technological revolution has taken place during the full-scale war. Two years ago, we started developing the UAV market almost from scratch and launched the Army of Drones project together with the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence, the State Special Communications Service, and UNITED24," the Ministry of Digital Transformation explained.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, there were only 7 manufacturers from whom the state could buy drones. Today, there are more than 100 of them, and drone production has scaled up 100 times. Moreover, 96% of the UAVs purchased by the state are domestic.

To open up the UAV market, according to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the government has created conditions for scaling up production and adopted more than 20 revolutionary laws and regulations. For example, it has simplified the approval of UAVs for operation; cancelled VAT and duties on UAV components; and increased the margin from 1% to 25%, when in NATO countries this figure is 17%. It has also introduced transparent and accountable procurement and created the world's first UAV strike companies within the Drone Army.
