Google presents a new series of Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL smartphones with 16 GB of RAM, Satellite SOS, Android 14 starting at $999
Google has unveiled its new Pixel 9 smartphone lineup, which includes two models: Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. These models are the first in the history of the Pixel line to come in two sizes: Pixel 9 Pro with a 6.3-inch screen and Pixel 9 Pro XL with a 6.8-inch screen. Both smartphones feature Super Actua displays with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Here's What We Know
The new Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL have an updated design with an improved camera panel and a sleek design. The smartphones are available in four colours: Obsidian, Porcelain, Walnut, and Rose Quartz.
Both models are powered by the new Tensor G4 processor, which supports Gemini Nano local data processing with Multimodality for text, image and audio recognition. The processor is combined with 16GB of RAM and 128/256/512GB and 1TB of internal storage options.
The Pixel 9 Pro has a 4700 mAh battery (4558 mAh minimum) and the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 5060 mAh battery (4942 mAh minimum). Both models support 45W fast charging, which allows you to charge the battery from 0 to 70% in just 30 minutes.
The smartphones have new artificial intelligence features, including Gemini Live for an advanced voice assistant and Pixel Studio for image editing. The Clear Calling feature has also been improved and now includes Call Notes for a private summary of phone calls.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are among the first devices to include Satellite SOS for emergency communications via satellite. This feature is available at no extra charge for the first two years.
The new Pixel Weather app uses artificial intelligence to provide accurate weather forecasts. The phones come with Android 14 with the promise of 7 years of OS updates, although Android 15 is expected in the coming months.
Both models feature 50MP primary cameras, a 48MP ultra-wide sensor and a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x zoom. The selfie camera has been upgraded to 42 MP. New features include 8K video recording, Video Boost support, and Super Res Zoom up to 20x.
Pre-orders for the Pixel 9 Pro start at USD 999, and for the Pixel 9 Pro XL at USD 1,099. Sales will begin on 22 August, and the Pixel 9 Pro will be available on 4 September.
