Google announces Pixel Watch 3 in 41mm and 45mm sizes for $349 and $449 with LTE

Google has unveiled a new version of its Pixel Watch 3 smartwatch, available in two sizes - 41 mm and 45 mm. Visually, the novelty resembles last year's Pixel Watch 2, but has a number of improvements.

Technical Characteristics

• The new Pixel Watch 3 is available with an Actua display that reaches a peak brightness of 2000 nits and a minimum of 1 nit for a constantly switched-on screen. Both variants feature a 320 PPI AMOLED LTPO display with DCI-P3 colour support. The display also features a dynamic refresh rate of 1 to 60 Hz for improved responsiveness and energy efficiency.
• In terms of battery, the 41mm model has a 306mAh battery and the 45mm model has a 420mAh battery. The battery life remains at up to 24 hours with the display always on and up to 36 hours in battery saving mode. Fast charging takes place via USB-C with a 20% improvement in charging speed compared to the previous model.
• The Pixel Watch 3 is powered by a Qualcomm SW5100 chip with Cortex M33 coprocessor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The new model also includes Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), 4G LTE, NFC, and ultra-wideband (UWB) for enhanced unlocking and digital car keys.

Health and fitness

Pixel Watch 3 has been enhanced for running. The new Workout Builder allows you to create customised running programmes to control your pace, heart rate, time, distance, and repetitions. The watch provides real-time guidance on the wrist and uses advanced motion detection and machine learning to accurately track the user's shape.

Health features include detailed heart rate tracking, a daily readiness score, cardio activity monitoring, and heart rate loss detection. The watch automatically detects when you are sleeping to activate the night mode.

Software.

Pixel Watch 3 comes with new apps such as Pixel Recorder, Google TV Remote Tile for media management, and updates to Google Home that allow you to view live camera feeds. Updates also include an expanded call screen and an improved interface for the Pixel Camera.

Availability and pricing

The Pixel Watch 3 (41 mm) is available for $349 for the Wi-Fi model and $449 for the LTE model. It is available in Matte Black, Polished Silver, and Champagne Gold colours. The 45 mm model costs $399 for Wi-Fi and $449 for LTE with additional colours including a matte green aluminium case.

Pre-orders are already open, and sales are scheduled to begin on 10 September. The watch is available for purchase through the Google Store, Amazon, and Best Buy.
