Gemini becomes a standard assistant for the Pixel 9 series

Google has announced that a new feature for the Pixel 9, Gemini Live, is starting to roll out on Android. This advanced artificial intelligence option allows for "free conversations" and requires a subscription to the extended version of Gemini.

Here's What We Know

Gemini Live is a new feature that allows users to interact with the AI assistant without having to switch to full screen mode. It preserves the context of background conversations, allows users to drag and drop images into Gmail or Google Messages, and offers the "Ask about this video" option in the YouTube app. The feature will be available in the coming weeks.

What's new in Gemini functionality

Google has also announced new extensions for Gemini, which include calendar, tasks, Google Keep, and utilities such as managing timers, alarms, media files, and other device features. YouTube Music extensions will receive new features, including the creation of playlists reminiscent of late 90s music.

Here's How It Works

Gemini Live allows users to interact with AI through voice commands, as well as restore previous conversations and view transcripts. A new Live button appears in the lower right corner of the screen, and 10 new voices with different characteristics are available. Initially, the feature supports only English.

Soon, Gemini Live will receive deeper integration with Google Home, Phone, and Messages. In addition, Google is preparing new opportunities to expand the functionality, including access to utility extensions.

Gemini Live is already available for Gemini Advanced subscribers on Android worldwide. Support for other languages and iOS is expected in the coming weeks.
