Google Satellite SOS will be available on Pixel 9 after launch

Google Satellite SOS will be available for the Pixel 9 series at launch, and its functionality is slightly different than expected. This new feature will be available on the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold models thanks to the new Exynos 5400 modem on the Tensor G4 chip, which improves satellite support.

Here's What We Know

Satellite SOS will be active at launch in the United States, with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska. It is noted that the feature is only available on the new Pixel 9, and the expansion to other countries and models is currently unknown.

Here's How It Works

Satellite SOS works through the Google Dialer app: if you try to call an emergency service without a mobile connection or Wi-Fi, you will be able to use satellite communication.

The feature was implemented in partnership with Garmin and Skylo. Garmin Response handles SOS requests, coordinating emergency response through its network. Skylo provides the satellite network to which the Pixel 9 connects.
