Google Search AI Overviews expands to six new countries and adds new features

Google is expanding AI Overviews, launched in the US in May, to six new countries: UK, India, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil. The feature is being rolled out over the next few weeks and will appear in the right-hand column on desktop versions of Google Search.

Here's What We Know

Users will see a list with the page title, description, and other details instead of a carousel of cards. On mobile devices, it will be a series of icons in the upper right corner to open the list.

Google reports that it has identified a user preference for AI Overviews, which it considers more useful search results. The company is also testing the function of embedded URLs in AI reviews, which will drive more traffic to publishers' websites.

As part of the AI Overviews and More programme, Search Labs is adding a "Save" feature to save reviews and access them later.
