Here's What We Know
This is reported by the edition DW. We are talking about two batteries of medium-range surface-to-air missile system IRIS-T SLM and two batteries of short-range surface-to-air missile system IRIS-T SLS. The systems will help Ukraine strengthen its air defence and protect civilians and critical infrastructure from massive air strikes.
Flashback
IRIS-T (Infra Red Imaging System Tail/Thrust Vector Controlled) is an advanced surface-to-air missile system developed by German company Diehl Defence. The IRIS-T system is designed for air defence. It can effectively engage a variety of targets, including aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The IRIS-T air-to-air missile, modified for use in air defence systems, is the basis of the system. It is equipped with an infrared homing head, which provides high aiming accuracy and the ability to hit targets with high manoeuvrability.
IRIS-T is actively used in the Ukrainian army.
