The United States increases production of JASSM and LRASSM air-launched missiles

Lockheed Martin has signed a $130 million contract with the US Department of Defence to increase production of Joint Air-to-Surface Surface-to-Surface Missiles (JASSM) and Long Range Anti-Ship Missiles (LRASM).

Here's What We Know

The tools and test equipment will be purchased for a US Air Force contract required to increase production. The work will be performed in Orlando, Florida, and is expected to be completed by December 2027.

The development comes amid reports that the Biden administration is considering arming Ukraine's F-16s with the JASSM air-to-air cruise missile, which can hit targets as far as 370 km away.

Flashback

The LRASM missile is a stealthy, long-range anti-ship cruise missile. It is designed to engage high-priority naval targets such as aircraft carriers and missile cruisers from a range of 200 nautical miles (370 km).

AGM-158 JASSM is a precision air-to-surface cruise missile. It is designed to engage important, highly protected stationary and moving targets in all weather conditions and at any time of the day, from ranges beyond the range of enemy air defences.
