Microsoft has delayed the launch of the Recall feature until October to strengthen its security

Microsoft has announced that the launch of the Recall feature has been postponed until October. Recall, which was supposed to be one of the key features of the new Copilot+ PCs, has attracted a lot of criticism due to privacy and security concerns.

Here's What We Know

The feature is designed to create a timeline of screenshots and a text database, allowing users to easily find information about their past activity on the PC. However, researchers have pointed out the serious risks associated with other users or attackers accessing this data.

In response to the criticism, Microsoft has decided to refine Recall by adding database encryption and requiring authentication via Windows Hello. The feature will also be disabled by default and users will be able to enable it manually. In October, the updated version of Recall will be available for testing for members of the Windows Insider programme. Microsoft emphasises that security remains a priority and promises to provide more details in a blog post ahead of the launch. The feature is expected to be widely available in 2025.
