Uber and Cruise join forces to launch autonomous taxis in 2025

Cruise, a subsidiary of General Motors, has announced a multi-year partnership with Uber to bring its robot taxis to the taxi hailing platform in 2025.

Here's What We Know

This partnership will follow the relaunch of Cruise's unmanned service, which was suspended after a pedestrian hit-and-run incident last October. In preparation for its return to public roads, Cruise has been actively engaging with regulators and has already begun testing its robot taxis in Phoenix, Dallas and Houston, US.

Uber, for its part, is already working with Waymo on taxi hailing and has partnerships with several delivery and autonomous trucking companies. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said that Uber can offer significant value to autonomous vehicle companies due to its technology and ability to deliver high demand without having to invest capital to attract customers.
