Lithuania receives more than 150 US JLTV armoured vehicles

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence has announced that the country has recently received a batch of JLTV armoured vehicles under the second contract.

Here's What We Know

"The new batch of JLTV all-terrain vehicles delivered to Lithuania this week once again demonstrates the close cooperation between the Lithuanian and US militaries. These armoured all-terrain vehicles will also be used as a platform for short-range air defence systems," explained Minister of Defence Laurinas Kasciunas.

It is worth noting that this is the second batch of JLTVs, the first one was delivered in March 2024, when Lithuania received 35 armoured vehicles. In general, the procurement of JLTVs for the Lithuanian army began in 2019 when the contract between the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence and the United States government was signed.

Flashback

The JLTV is a light tactical off-road armoured combat vehicle developed by Oshkosh Defence to replace the Humvee in the US Army. It was first presented in 2015. The JLTV has high mobility with powerful armour to protect the crew from mines and improvised explosive devices. The vehicle is equipped with a suspension system that provides improved cross-country ability on difficult terrain. The vehicle also has a modular design that allows it to be adapted to various combat missions, including transport, casualty evacuation and fire support.
