Samsung extends support for its new Tizen OS-based artificial intelligence TVs to 7 years

Samsung has announced a new firmware update policy for its artificial intelligence smart TVs. The company will now offer 7 years of free Tizen OS updates for 2024 models and some 2023 models. This significantly increases the support period compared to the current two to three years, which is typical for most manufacturers.

Here's What We Know

The initiative is aimed at strengthening Samsung's position in the TV market, where competition with brands such as Hisense and TCL is becoming increasingly fierce. Samsung's TV division president Yong Seok-woo said the company aims to widen its market share gap with Chinese rivals with this new policy.

Earlier this year, LG, Samsung's TV rival, announced plans to update several 2022 TV models over the "next five years". It is not yet known whether the updates to Samsung TVs will apply to models older than 2023, but the initiative has already received positive feedback.

Samsung aims to provide its customers with new features and improved security for a longer period of time, making their TVs more attractive for long-term use.
