Telegram founder Pavel Durov arrested at the airport in Paris

This Saturday evening, 25 August, Pavel Durov, the 39-year-old founder and CEO of Telegra, was detained at Le Bourget airport as he stepped off his private jet. He was accompanied by a bodyguard and a woman. Durov had flown in from Azerbaijan, unaware that he was about to be arrested.

Here's What We Know

French law enforcement officials detained him on the basis of a warrant issued earlier on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking, child abuse and fraud. Telegram is believed to be not doing enough to combat these crimes and is not cooperating with the police.

Durov usually avoids travelling to Europe, knowing that he could face charges. He is now in custody and could face serious charges in the near future, including terrorism and money laundering.
