"Ubisoft's standard action game": critics favoured Star Wars Outlaws, but noted a number of flaws as well

Star Wars Outlaws will be released on the 30th of August, which will be the first game in the franchise with a full-fledged open world.

Looking at the pre-release trailers, many people assumed that Outlaws will not be a masterpiece, but it's hard to call it a failure. Today critics have published their reviews and it turned out that this point of view is the closest to reality.

Here's What We Know

Most experts agree that the phrase "standard Ubisoft action game" is the best way to describe Star Wars Outlaws. It has a good gameplay, predictable but interesting plot, several notable characters, picturesque planets, a lot of additional tasks and side activities and, in general, not bad technical execution.

However, almost all of Outlaws mechanics are found in one form or another in every Ubisoft game, so they do not arouse curiosity. The most successful find of the game was the elaboration of crime syndicates and their interaction with the protagonist. All factions have vivid individual features and can offer something valuable for co-operation with them. At the same time, in almost every quest the player will choose which Syndicate to side with and because of this he will not be able to maintain friendly relations with all factions.

Another positive element of Outlaws experts call the pet Nix, who is not only cute and decorates the game, but also helps his mistress in battle, distracting enemies and giving useful items.

As for the obvious minuses, there are not so many of them, and the main one is frankly bad facial animation, which does not cause any questions only in separately processed videos, and in the game itself it is weak and outdated.

In the end, Star Wars Outlaws earned:

  • 78 points on Metacritic for the MS version and 77 points for the Xbox Series and PS5 versions;
  • on Opencritic - 77 points with 76% of recommendations.

Star Wars Outlaws is likely to appeal to dedicated fans of the famous universe and fans of open-world games.
