Sega's iconic franchise conquers yet another platform: the Yakuza series is coming to Nintendo Switch for the first time

At the Nintendo Direct event, studio Ryu Ga Gotoku and Sega made a surprise announcement that aims to popularise the Yakuza series, the latest instalments of which are being released under the name Like a Dragon.

Here's What We Know

The developers have announced that a Yakuza game will be released on Nintendo Switch for the first time.

It will be a crime drama Yakuza Kiwami, which is a remake of the first instalment of the franchise and shows how Kazuma Kiryu's story began.

The original game came out in 2005 and was largely outdated, so in 2016 Sega released Yakuza Kiwami, with much improved gameplay and an expanded story.

When We Can Expect It

Yakuza Kiwami will be released on Nintendo Switch on the 24th of October.

It's logical to assume that other parts of the series will be ported to the Japanese handheld at a later date.
