Defence Forces showcase rare Ukrainian Oplot tank now defending Kharkiv region

The press service of the 3rd Tank Brigade demonstrated a Ukrainian main battle tank Oplot, which belongs to one of the brigade's units.

Here's What We Know

It is stated that the Oplot is used to defend the Kharkiv region from Russian invaders.

Despite the fact that there are no further details, the mention of the Ukrainian tank is still quite important, as it is the first time since the full-scale invasion that the Ukrainian Defence Forces have demonstrated the operation of the Oplot. In addition, before 24 February 2022, this Oplot was mentioned quite rarely.

In May 2023, the then head of the Ministry of Defence, Oleksiy Reznikov, said that the state intended to order Oplot for the army and put it into mass production. However, after that, there was almost no information about the tank.

Flashback

"The Oplot is a modern Ukrainian main battle tank designed by the Kharkiv Machine Building Design Bureau. "The Oplot is a radical modernisation of the T-84 Oplot tank and the newest member of the T-84 tank series. It was adopted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2009. As of 2021, the Armed Forces had only one tank. However, an export agreement was signed to supply 49 Oplot-T tanks to Thailand.
