Ukraine has asked Poland for the rest of the MiGs

During a conference in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked the Polish authorities to provide more MiG-29 fighter jets.

Here's What We Know

"Poland probably gave us what it could. However, some things remained in Poland. There are specific issues. We really need your MiGs," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a press conference.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Poland has been one of the main suppliers of weapons to Ukraine. For example, Warsaw has provided PT-91 and Leopard tanks, Krab artillery systems and Piorun air defence systems.

However, the Ukrainian president still expects further cooperation, stressing that Poland still has resources that could support Ukraine.

It is worth noting that in July, Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke about the possibility of transferring MiGs to Ukraine, noting that this decision would depend on whether NATO allies would provide Poland with the appropriate funds for replacement.

Zelenskyy noted that this topic had been raised repeatedly in talks with the Polish authorities. In the context of air support, Ukraine also talks about the possibility of Poland shooting down Russian missiles and drones over the western regions of Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine also recalled the enormous support that Poland has provided to Ukraine since the first days of the war, both in terms of military and humanitarian aid. He particularly emphasised the role of Poles who have taken in Ukrainian refugees.
