Insider: Xiaomi is preparing its own 4nm chip for smartphones: what is known about the new product
Xiaomi is preparing to launch its own smartphone chip, joining companies such as Apple, Google, Huawei, and Samsung, which already have their own SoCs.
Here's What We Know
In June of this year, it was reported that Xiaomi was working with Unisoc on a new 4nm chipset. Now it has become known that the chip will be manufactured at TSMC fabs using the N4P process. According to sources, this chip will be equipped with a Unisoc modem and has a performance similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new product is expected to hit the market in the first half of 2025.
This is not the first time Xiaomi has tried its hand at creating chipsets. In 2017, the company released its first in-house developed SoC, the Surge S1. This chip was used in the Xiaomi Mi 5c model and became an important step for the brand in the development of technology.
However, after that, Xiaomi decided to focus on using chipsets from third-party manufacturers such as Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Unisoc. The main reason for this was the high cost of developing its own chips. Manufacturing chips requires large financial and technical resources, which makes this process less profitable compared to using ready-made chipsets from other manufacturers.
