Details of the new Snapdragon X Plus processor leaked: affordable laptops based on Qualcomm chipset will appear in 2025

Qualcomm is preparing to participate in IFA 2024 in Berlin, where it plans to make several important announcements. One of the most anticipated is the introduction of a new variant of the Snapdragon X Plus processor for mid-range laptops.

Here's What We Know

On the eve of the official announcement, a well-known whistleblower Evan Blass, who goes by @evleaks, shared the first details of this processor.

The new Snapdragon X Plus will be part of Qualcomm's line of PC processors aimed at more affordable laptop models. According to the leak, the chipset will feature an 8-core Oryon processor, which is a simplified version of the 10-core processor used in previous models. This processor will have the same AI capabilities as the older version, thanks to the built-in Qualcomm Hexagon processor, which delivers 45 TOPS of performance.

As for the graphics component, the new chipset will have a stripped-down version of the Adreno GPU with a maximum performance of 1.7 TFLOPS, which is significantly less than the older model with 3.8 TFLOPS. However, this does not mean that the new processor will not be able to provide a high level of performance in most tasks.

In addition, the new Snapdragon X Plus will support three external displays with UHD resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, as well as LPDDR5X RAM with a total of 30MB of cache.

The new Qualcomm processor will also support the latest connectivity technologies such as Wi-Fi 7 and 5G. This chipset is expected to be the basis for Copilot+ laptops costing up to $800, making them accessible to a wider range of users. The first such laptops may appear on the market as early as 2025, although no official information has been confirmed.

We are still waiting for the official announcement from Qualcomm, which is due to take place during IFA 2024, where the company will share all the details and plans for the new Snapdragon X Plus series of laptop processors.
