Voldemort malware targets Google Spreadsheets and masquerades as a tax authority

A new malware called Voldemort has been discovered that targets Google Sheets. The malware impersonates tax authorities in the US, Europe, and Asia to spread through phishing emails.

Here's What We Know

The malware uses Google Sheets as a control server, which allows it to remain invisible to security tools. The main function of Voldemort is to extract data and manipulate files on infected systems.

Phishing attacks include disguised links to tax documents that direct the victim to dangerous resources. Interaction with the files leads to the installation of malware that uses legitimate applications such as Cisco WebEx to infect.

Linux and Mac OS users are not currently at risk, but system administrators are advised to restrict access to external resources and monitor suspicious activity on Windows-based systems.
