"We saved each other": chief investor of Black Myth: Wukong developers talked about the relationship with Game Science and the development of DLC for the action game

The action game Black Myth: Wukong became an absolute hit of the passing summer and, perhaps, of the whole 2024 year. As we have already reported, the game sales exceeded 18 million copies, and the developers earned $852 million (before fees and taxes).

Professional investor Daniel Wu - the head of Hero Games publisher, which is a partner of Game Science studio - said that an add-on for Black Myth: Wukong is already in development, and he is confident that production will not take long.

Wu didn't share any details about the DLC, but he did provide other interesting information: according to him, Black Myth's development started in 2018 and cost $70 million, and most of that amount was covered by his company. He also said that before the release of the game about the Monkey King, Game Science studio released three failed conditional free-to-play games, which taught the team a lot and allowed them to understand in what direction to move to achieve success.

Daniel Wu admitted that his publisher had fallen on hard times too, and if it wasn't for the success of Wukong, the situation would surely have become dire:

We were like two drowning rats. We weren't afraid of failure, and [Feng Ji, Game Science founder] knew what his next move would be. All he needed was for me to risk my money.
